New Zealand Oil and Gas Ltd (NZOG) has been advised of the outcome of court proceedings relating to an accidental oil discharge off the Taranaki coast in October 2007.

The discharge came from the floating production and storage offtake vessel Umuroa which processes oil from the Tui oil fields.

NZOG has a 12.5% stake in Tui. The other partners are AWE (42.5% and operator), Mitsui (35%), and Pan Pacific Petroleum (10%).

AWE, as field operator, and Prosafe Production, as the owner/operator of the Umuroa, have been fined NZ$52,500 each by the District Court.

The Tui joint venture takes its health, safety, environmental and regulatory responsibilities very seriously and deeply regrets the 2007 incident.

Since then a range of additional operational and facility management procedures have been implemented to prevent any re-occurrence of this type of incident.

AWE, on behalf of the joint venture partners, worked closely with local authorities and community groups towards the restoration of the foreshore area affected by the spill with this work now completed.
